The Ashes of Naoleth
The Modern World
The current world is still well within the Great Spring. A time of rediscovery of the world of Naoleth. Those with even a moderate knowledge of lore are aware of the wonders devised by the ancients that were lost in the Apocalypse. But, unlike the ancestors, this generation is aware of what is possible. There are some who yearn to be the first to rediscover the knowledge and power of the ancients. What they would do with such power is a great unknown.
Each of the civilized races has reclaimed a small area of their once great kingdoms. The dwarves have carved out settlements in the mountains. They lack the glory and grandeur of their former lairs, but are stout. The elves form networks of civilizations in the forests with their trademark hides in the trees. Humans forming towns and cities mostly along the coasts. Halflings, hal-elves, and gnomes melding into each society and carving out their own niche. Trade routes have been established both across roads as well as sea lanes. Most cities are open to trade and visitors and the forces of economy have again taken form. The primal tribes continue with their nomadic ways of life, moving with the seasons.
But as the civilized races begin to emerge from the ashes of the Apocalypse and the long winter that followed, so to have the wild races. More than ever, The Wild is a dangerous place. It has reclaimed almost all of its ancient original area and swallowed up the ruins and monuments of the ancestors. Already, loose bands of goblins, orcs, and others for war parties to strike out agains settlements of the civilized. But, of the Mograth and their masters, The Wizards of Cisharum, there is no sign.
Now, for the first time in generations, adventurers set forth into the wild to find the lost treasures of the ancients. Some do it to return civilization to its former glory. Some due it for the love of knowledge. Some do it for treasure and wealth. Some do it to reclaim religions artifacts lost in the war. And some do it for power. There are also a rare few who venture into the wild to keep watch against any signs of the Wizards of Cisharum and the Mograth.
